A group of two climbers found dead on Mt Whitney last week have been identified as Andrew Niziol, 28, and Patty Bolan, 29.
The pair had been climbing the Whitney Mountaineer's Route and planned to ski/splitboard down from the "notch," to their campsite at Upper Boy Scout Lake, but they never made it back to their gear after submitting. Their immediate cause of death is unclear, but the case has been turned over to the Tulare County Coroner's Office.
At a towering 14,500 feet (4,420 meters), Mount Whitney is the highest point in the U.S. outside Alaska.
